Sunday May 7

As I started the day saying, we see several skeletons of old buildings along the way. Today I stopped and took a few photos of just such a building. This was one of the earliest filling stations on Route 66. It stands as a reminder of  the early days.

Imagine a service station with a fire place!

We then stopped by the Arcadia Red Round Barn where we were given a fabulous tour by our newest friend, Jim. He gave great details of a bygone age and how the two ladies that ended up owning this barn ended up donating it in order to preserve it. It is a great barn where they hosted barn dances upstairs. The acoustics are phenomenal upstairs. Jim mentioned that every 2nd Sunday, acoustic guitar players came from all over to play. I mentioned that I had my guitar, and so I broke it out. There was no crowd but I could whisper and be heard clearly anywhere in the room. What a treat!

Center bearing post.

Roof span 37' above the floor! Me and Jim.

Jim told us to be sure to stop at the pop stand where they have 666 varieties of pop. They have this bottle of soda pop (all based upon Route 66) guess how tall the bottle of pop is? Ding, ding, ding...66'.

And based upon the route 66 theme, how long is the cantilever on this roof?...Right again, 66'. How did they do that one?

We then found ourselves in front of the First United Methodist Church of Edmond just a few minutes late for their 11:00 service, so we wandered in. What a phenomenal group of people and a powerful sermon by Pastor Steve. Thank you to all who welcomed us so warmly!

I have certainly heard Blake Shelton and Garth Brooks sing about red dirt roads, and knowing that both are from Oklahoma, I just figured that they like singing red, but there is a big difference in the red roads of Oklahoma and elsewhere...this dirt IS red!!!

State Capital Building.

And there are so many awesome neon signs advertising everything.

I only wish I could figure out how to convert a steel truss, 38 span bridge video we took today. 38 arches is unheard of and so awesome to witness. I hope I can figure out how to convert this in order for you to see...this is just unhereal.

We are stopped for the night at Clinton, OK., which is the home of the Route 66 National Museum. We shall visit tomorrow and post accordingly!
