Kingman, AZ to California

Last night after dinner we drove around Kingman and saw some sights in town. It is a nice town with some great things to see.

A beautiful old Courthouse.

I love some of the 3D murals we have seen on this trip.

And we can't figure out how in the world they could have gotten this monstrous old steam locomotive in this park.

After church this morning in Kingman, we finished up the last of our Route 66 in Arizona. This is the most hilly, curvy portion of Route 66.  It consists of 8.5 miles of fun, 10 mph, high incline roads with no guard rail. The total distance driven today from Kingman to Needles, CA is only 60 miles, but that drive up was a slow going fun ride. I have attached a link to Oatman Highway, listed as a dangerous road.

Oatman, AZ, is an old mining town turned ghost town turned tourist trap. We spent more time here than we thought we would and enjoyed it immensely.
.

They have burrows freely roaming through the town and the burrows linger if they sense they can steal some food from you when you are not looking.

Thanks to Rich in Oatman for some tips on where to stay near Los Angeles. We appreciate your wise counsel!

The ride down from Oatman was a bit straighter to our arrival in Needles, CA, where the current temperature is 105 degrees. How some of you are able to put up with this heat I'll never know. Some people say, "Yes, but the humidity is low."  I say that's bunk; it's still hot!  Fortunately for us, we're just passing through.

We will be diverting off of Route 66 for a couple of days to head up to Hoover Dam and into Las Vegas to do a bit of sight seeing.

Till Tomorrow.

  2. I imagine it was easier going through the Sitgreaves Pass on a motorcycle than it is with an SUV or crossover like we did....scared the crap out of my wife, but it was worth it when we got to Oatman. What a great town! We met the postmaster & found out she was originally from our area.
