Searchlight, NV

We left Las Vegas this morning and drove part way back to Route 66. There are no motels for a while once we start back on our route so we are in Searchlight, 32 miles from Route 66. It is said that this old mining town was named for Searchlight matches. That was a name brand of matches when this town first was established after gold was discovered here in 1898. We only drove about 60 miles today though rich scenery abounded on our drive south on US 95. Their motto here should be, If you seek a pleasant mountain, look about you.

As we drove, looking off in the distance appears to be a lake...

...Though upon approaching we realize we are observing the largest collection of solar arrays we have ever seen; as it turns out, this is the largest collection of solar arrays anywhere in the world. This is Nevada Solar One covering over 400 acres.

The lovely mountain in the background appears closer than it really is. It appears peaceful and serene. Her velveteen appearing blanketed landscape and gently sweeping hills beckon the weary traveler saying, walk through the lush green valley and come hither and climb my gentle hills and rest; crazy mountain!

Thanks for looking in.
Till Tomorrow!
