Monday May 8

Well, we completed an arduous journey of all of 30 miles today. We started off at a leisurely pace doing a few housekeeping items. We then visited the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton. It was interesting meeting with Guy and his wife who were visiting from England; we asked them how Route 66 came to be so well known in England. They explained that 1) The movie Easy Rider, 2) The song Get Your Kicks on Route 66, and 3) They were both English teachers and the English books for their students use stories about Route 66. And now you know!

They used obviously very painstaking methods to construct this road.

Then a drive of 30 miles to Elk City. On the road, you pass many historic signs, sometimes signs that no longer have a building associated with it.

We made it into Elk City and stopped at the Verizon Store to deal with a phone issue. The folks in that store were incredibly helpful and attentive, particularly Byron. We will be staying here another day to allow us to get caught up on laundry and the like. By the time we made it to the National Route 66 Museum, it was closed. This awaits us for tomorrow.
