Describing the Road

A word about this incredible road...research says that about 85% of the road is still intact; we agree based upon that which we have encountered thus far. The road plays connect the dots with Main Streets in so many small towns. The people in most of the towns stand ready to greet us in one fashion or another. As we arrived in the first town we came to in Oklahoma, one gentleman commented on the bike. As he heard our accent, he asked where we were from and where we are going. Once we explained, he agreed that it sounded like a great trip and proudly welcomed us to Oklahoma. Just one of many such encounters.

As the interstates were built, many times they built the new interstate alongside of Route 66, other times, right over the top of it but in many cases the interstate is at least a mile and other times much further than that away from Route 66. This allows for some great quiet. There have been miles on end where we have not seen another vehicle. This has been a fantastic trip thus far. The roads at times are rather rough, akin to riding a bucking bronco but what do you expect for 89 years old. If you are ever so inclined to discover the re-connection to the past, don't hesitate for a second.
