Standin' on the Corner...

Thank you Eagles for a classic song and a great historic downtown of Winslow, Arizona. Oh yes, we did!
Standin' on the corner in Winslow, Arizona

It's such a fine sight to see

It's a girl my Lord in a flat bed Ford...

And this shop plays the Eagles album the song was on.

Take it Easy.

And hi to my new friend, Joseph Molcano, who is walking to New Mexico for his father's funeral. Good luck, Joseph.

And alongside the interstate is this remnant of original Route 66. The ravages of time are definitely taking its toll on the Mother Road. This is actual pavement that nature is reclaiming.

We did a trip off of Route 66 to go look at a big hole in the ground. We saw meteor crater where a meteor fell, they say, over 50,000 years ago. This is the biggest piece recovered of the 150 foot meteor that left a crater of approximately 1 mile across and 550' deep.

Back on the road to Flagstaff, we stopped off to see Two Guns, Arizona. This is now a ghost town. We were tipped off to see this yesterday by big rig driver, Mary. Thanks Mary, it was an interesting stop.

And a few miles from Flagstaff, we stopped to see this historic bridge built over Walnut Canyon. This bridge was constructed in 1924. Parts of the steel over head support have been hit by a high load, otherwise, this bridge may still be passable today.

And we are parked for the night at the Western Hills Motel, an historic place on Route 66. Winds were incredibly heavy today with gusts over 45 mph. The strong crosswinds cut heavily into my gas mileage. While I can normally average 34 mpg, today I could only eek out 22. Temperature here in Flagstaff was 51 with windchill of 37. Brrrr.

Till tomorrow, take it easy!

  1. It's a good thing you didn't need an oil change. When we got to Winslow last year, we had to go to Walmart for 2 hours to have the oil changed in the Outlander (the one we had with us at Rich's) because the engine light came on. Tomorrow, it sounds like you'll end up in Seligman...Make sure you go to the Sno Cap and visit Angel!

  2. Realized I missed catching up with you two yesterday, so got two days worth this morning (my bad!). Your posts cause me to slow down and enjoy life for a little while. What fun and beauty! This is a fun trip to follow and read along of what you are seeing and the many new friends you are taking the time to meet.
Have another great day today. Praying for safety as you travel ahead.
