Tough Drive but Well Worth It

We left Half Moon Bay this morning to light mist. We waited till 9 to leave hoping the weather would break for when we passed across the Golden Gate bridge. The light mist and fog did not let up. It followed us all morning.

Here is a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge.

And we were forced to detour off of Highway 1 due to another slide that has closed the road near Stinson Beach until October. The detour takes you through the Muir Woods National Monument. The incredible vistas had breath taking views of the forest.

It actually was an incredible drive. The fog finally lifted and we could see much better. This was one tough road to do. We were on the road for over an hour. Hairpin turn after hairpin turn slowed us down immensely. The sidecar on the bike greatly slows down your ability to turn and maneuver. It gets rather tough as there is no leaning to assist in steering through curves. As a result I have to steer like one would do in a car, except I have handlebars.

We saw countless curves just like this one today.

When we could see scenery today, it was gorgeous.

A look back over the shoulder and you can see where we came from.

The road disappears around the mountain, and the demise that would occur for failing to properly maneuver curves is rather obvious. The Panoramic Road, I thought must be about 30 miles long. It took us over an hour. I looked it up and was surprised to find that it is 8.9 miles long...Seriously?

And a diversion from Highway 1 was in order  as we detoured to see my brother Steve. Mom and Dad kept trying until they had the perfect son...you guessed it, that was me. Great to see you, Steve and Kathy!

Till Tomorrow!
