Vancouver Island

This morning we bid a fond adieu to Port Angeles, WA, and the good ole USA and set sail in a Black Ball ferry to Vancouver Island. This was a 1-1/2 hour crossing and very smooth sailing. We arrived in the port city of Victoria.

Victoria is a beautiful city.

After arriving in Victoria, we drove to Butchart Gardens. This is a world famous garden that has been here for over 100 years. It is obviously well known as the place was crawling with people from other countries.

We then drove up Highway 1 which is actually part of the Trans-Canada Highway. Views of Mill Bay were wonderful.

We then took a detour to see the historic Kinsol Trestle Bridge. It took a short walk on what used to be the rail bed. The walk was well worth it to see this 100 year old bridge. It is 150’ to the river below.

I took this photo of an old photo. I was leery to cross the bridge on foot but can't imagine being on a train and crossing it.

And we arrived safely at our friends, Dan and Ruth. We stay at the same condo complex in Puerto Vallarta. I had to use an old photo I have on my phone of Dan and Ruth as Ruth is away on a cruise with another mutual friend from Mexico. We will be taking a rest here today and tomorrow and resting up for what promises to be a long haul up to Alaska. Thanks Dan and Ruth!

Thanks for riding along!
Till Tomorrow!
