100 Mile House

This morning, we left the Skagit Motel in Hope and made our way to the Coquihalla Highway.

The Coq was amazing. Even with a slight mist and low lying clouds, we found it to be magnificent. We trailed rivers and streams most of the day today. We were on the Coq (Hwy. 5) for an hour and a half. We made it through the Coquihalla Summit of over 4000 feet looking down on scenes of snow left over from the winter. With the snow still melting, we saw multiple waterfalls, though they came up so quickly that it was difficult to capture images. We take somewhere around 150 images each day. So many of them look alike but it is hard not to attempt to capture the beauty we see with each new bend in the road. I go through and select a good representation of the photos.

We got off in Merritt and drove Highway 8 again adjacent to the Nicola River in the Nicola Valley, with spectacular views yet again.

At Spences Bridge, we turned onto Highway 1 again where we follow the Thompson River.

Once we reach Cache Creek, we turn off to Highway 97 which will take us to Dawson Creek just in time for Rita's birthday and the start of the Alaska Highway.

The views all along this route have been astonishing. Every curve, valley and crest of a hill gives another "Oh wow" moment. It is dizzying with our heads spinning to not miss a scene.

We are now settled in at the Red Coach Inn in 100 Mile House, so named because it was 100 miles from the start of the old Caribou Wagon Road during the Caribou Gold Rush in 1862. We are happy to be in a warm room for the night as it was sprinkling on us with a temperature of about 45 degrees.

Till Tomorrow!
